I am a full-time artist and tutor, working in my purpose-built studio set on 9 rural acres in SE Queensland. Originally from the NE of England, I completed my BA and MA in Textiles at Manchester Metropolitan University. I lived and worked in Bermuda for many years and now live in Cedar Creek on the north side of Brisbane.

My art is bursting with exuberant colour and texture realised in acrylic. My practice is concerned with the natural world and my home. All my work starts with observational drawing on location, developing into lushly layered paintings in the studio. I aim to evoke a particular sense and spirit of place through disrupted realism.

All my art is for sale and is perfect for homes or businesses. I am very happy to work to commission. If you see something you love but it isn't quite the right size or colour way, get in touch and we can come up with the perfect solution. Commissioning art  is a collaborative process, made easier with great communication.

My garden has been a labour of love for over a decade, as a rocky cow paddock has been transformed into a leafy subtropical garden The result is an endless source of inspiration, with familial connections to those who loved and tended their own gardens.

Australian landscape had always felt vast and empty when viewed with a European sensibility and it has taken many years for me to feel comfortable enough to engage visually. However, the valley where I live is relatively more intimate, the studio view of the paddocks, bush and mountain resonates with echoes of the country far away.

I completed a yearlong residency at a flower farm in mid-2024. This experience has provided me with an extensive body of work.
Through observational drawing, painting and photography on location, Helen recorded the farm cycle of preparing, planting, nurturing, harvesting, resting and replenishing, exploring the special sense of place that the farm exudes. I come from a family of keen gardeners and documenting the farm has manifested people and places far from here, enhancing her sense of kinship.

My most recent body of work is a collection of autobiographical still life. Objects preserve a wealth of significant emotion and connection, serving as physical embodiments of identity. The narratives of these objects project a sense of self while sharing stories of lives lived in other places and times. They hold a physical representation of experience, speaking of familial ties and the story of who we were, who we are, and where we have been.

I have exhibited my work worldwide in the USA, Canada, Bermuda, Poland, Russia, Australia, and the UK. My work is held in private, corporate, and public collections.

You will find my art classes for adults, original art, commissions and blogs here.

Please note I am not running weekly art classes at the moment. Keep an eye out on Instagram or subscribe to hear first about classes, workshops and new releases.
